Having Your Team Create a Mission Statement Has a Valuable By-Product

Is a mission/common purpose statement important? I believe so.

It’s one thing to have company leaders craft a mission statement. I chose to organize a volunteer peer group (employee council) to do the same. There was one associate from each department. They met together for several weeks with different iterations. The by-product became self-evident as time went on.

More important than the actual statement created were the insights brought to light by the meetings. The openness of the conversations gave valuable insights that would not necessarily come to fruition by a single associate if asked. However, in a non-threatening atmosphere with fellow associates, they felt the freedom to openly express ideas and concerns for betterment in the dealership.
